Teaching Students to Think in a Digital World–Part 1, Helen Boen
The importance of teaching students to think is as crucial today as it was two decades ago. The student, however, is not the same, nor are many of the skills needed for productivity. A shift has occurred in 21st century learning needs, and teachers must understand the differences if they hope to prepare this generation to be thinkers. This two-part seminar examines 21st century learners and strategies for training them to think.

The Role of Mission in Strategic Planning: A Crisis Is a Terrible Thing to Waste
Presenter: Dr. Brian Simmons, President of ACSI

 |
Building a Strategic Board
Presenter: Mr. Terry Moore, ISM, Inc.
A highly functional board is fundamental and foundational to excellence for independent schools. Conversely, schools with boards that misunderstand their role are often an organizational “albatross” around the school’s neck. Join ISM as they share their 38 years of research and experience in thousands of schools and guide you into building a board that is disciplined, self-reflective, and focused on the organizational “difference makers” that make this stewardship role so crucial to the school’s health.
|
 |
Recruitment and Retention
Presenter: Mr. Chip Snowden, ISM, Inc.
Stable enrollment, predictable tuition income, and proud parents are the chief ingredients in stability. You can ensure your school’s future when you know the resources are secure and your families are proud of their school and gladly share that pride with others. Join us to learn how you can understand and incorporate the “psychology of systematic bragging” into your constituent bonding endeavors. Move parents from the belief that “this school is good for my child” to an understanding and commitment to the idea that “our school is good for children.”

 |
The Budget Cycle—From Beginning to End
Presenter: Dr. Stephen Dill, Delaware County Christian School
Best practices in budgeting tell us that the budgeting process is an ongoing 12-month activity. This session will include discussion regarding the necessity of building an annual budget from the context of a multi-year plan, the use of benchmarking, tuition pricing and the role of financial aid, and the typical annual cycle in school budgeting. Current economic conditions require thorough and effective budget development.

 |
Lessons from Higher Education
Presenter: Dr. Brian Simmons, President of ACSI
With a background in K–12 and higher education, Dr. Simmons will share what Christian schools can learn from higher education. Practices in the areas of tuition, fund development, grants, endowments, financial assistance, etc. will be considered with a focus on very practical financial ideas to create “alternative spigots” of revenue to help our school toward sustainability.
|
 |
Maximizing Your Annual Campaign
Presenter: Mr. Chip Snowden, ISM, Inc.
The foundation of private/independent school advancement strategy is the implementation of an effective annual fund. Successful schools get out of the “selling candy and sending form letters” fundraising model quickly and move to a strategic and systemic approach that engages our constituents in much more personal and plan-full ways. An effective annual fund also acts as a core way to accurately establish your constituents' ability and desire to contribute to your mission.

 |
Strategic Finance
Presenter: Mr. Terry Moore, ISM, Inc.
Making certain your school is sustainable, and thus able to deliver your mission to students with excellence over time, is the key responsibility of the board. One of the most foundational mechanisms in achieving this is the development and implementation of a Strategic Financial Plan. Boards that create and implement effective financial planning strategies ensure that their schools will be prepared to maintain viability even during challenging times.

Witnessing to New Agers, by Kevin Bywater [51:40]
In this lecture, Bywater describes witnessing to New Agers as more than simply giving them a tract. It involves engaging them as individuals. Bywater gives examples of ways in which to probe the individual about their beliefs, rather than purely making statements. He suggests that the Christian ask questions of New Agers such as, what are their fears? What are their worldviews? When asking these questions, Bywater offers these exhortations to the Christian: Do not be afraid of New Agers. Instead, understand them as individuals and remember that they are created in the image of God.

| |
Marks of the Cults, by Kevin Bywater [50:59]
Kevin Bywater describes his experience with growing up in the Mormon church. He speaks of Mormonism as being a false religion of idolatry, and shares the work of God in his life as he came to the realization of what it is to be a true follower of Christ. Bywater then goes on to describe the Marks of the Cults. They add to the Word of God, subtract from the deity of Christ, multiply the terms of salvation and divide loyalties.

Worldview Overview, by Chuck Edwards [43:00]
According to pollster George Barna, a biblical worldview is the missing element in 9 out of 10 followers of Jesus Christ. Using examples from popular movies, Chuck Edwards explores three major aspects of a worldview and the difference thinking “worldviewishly” makes in understanding today’s culture. Learn how everyone has a worldview that begins with the question of God, and has implications for every other area of life, including philosophy and theology, psychology and science, economics, law, and politics.

Postmodern Bible Study, by Chuck Edwards [45:01]
How do you approach studying the Bible and the context in which its words are written? Chuck Edwards provides a discourse on various passages in the Scriptures and challenges the student to think critically about the context of those verses. Edwards further challenges students to avoid asking the question, what does this passage mean to me? and instead, asking the question, what does this passage mean?

The Case for the Pro-Life Position 1–3, by Scott Klusendorf [1:28:02]
Beginning with the argument that creatures only reproduce after their kind, Scott Klusendorf equips and challenges students to give a defense for the pro-life position. Klusendorf uses several additional arguments to lay the foundation for the nature of the unborn. In portions of the series, Klusendorf offers three main points in the case for defending pro-life view: the importance of restoring meaning to the word abortion, simplifying the abortion debate, and knowing how to refute common objections to pro-life view.
|
 |
Thinking Clearly 1–4, by Gregory Koukl [2:48:20]

Part 4 concludes the series with a discourse on informal fallacies or "think bomb." Evil and Suffering 1–2, by John Stonestreet [1:16:39]

| |

Cloning, stem cells, artificial intelligence, abortion, euthanasia. Biotechnology is the social issue of our times, and is moving at pace that leaves any ethical consideration way behind. Christians simply must address this issue, but many have no idea what is even going on. These sessions provide an introduction to the emerging technologies, and clear concise teaching on the key foundational issue of personhood and what makes humans valuable. |

Presenter: Don Johnson with Connection Ministry
Because we believe that true biblical worldview integration in the classroom is a skill that can be acquired and diligently maintained, we have designed a course called Making the Connections: How to Put Biblical Worldview Integration into Practice. This effective approach to integration is a teaching methodology and skill that equips teachers to design lesson plans integrating the biblical worldview with academic subject matter at all grade levels, using any curriculum. This approach will help students make the connections between the pieces of their lives and God’s larger view of reality. Helping students make these connections is at the very core of distinctively Christian education! The course includes an accompanying workbook, the Making the Connections Participant Guide. Other companion texts designed to accompany this course may be purchased on our website at Biblical Worldview Institute

Demand the Evidence Worldview Series
Presenter: Dr. Henry M. Morris III, Chief Executive Officer, Institute for Creation Research
Pulling Down Strongholds
Scripture presents the image of a spiritual army destroying enemy castles, nullifying great war strategies, and capturing the thoughts of many. Just how are we expected to do that? What does our Lord demand of us? What role do individual Christian leaders play in this eternal battle?
Genesis and the Character of God
What is the difference between special and general revelation? Are they to be taken at the same value? Is the creation itself intended to provide an interpretative framework for the rest of Scripture? How are we to use the "speech" and "knowledge" of the creation in our understanding of what God has revealed?
What Make the Good News Good
All too often the gospel is prepackaged in a sales pitch that leaves out both foundation and its consummation. One must believe who Christ is before they can trust what He did—or even begin to understand why He did what He did.
Presenter: Dr. John Morris, President of Institute for Creation Research
It's a Young World After All
Scripture clearly teaches the young earth, that creation occurred only thousands of years ago. Properly discerned and understood, science strongly supports the biblical doctrine of the young earth and refutes radioisotope dating. In fact, once you understand it, you will see it everywhere. Five examples from science backing this up along with flood model build the case for a young earth.
