T.E.A.M. Together Everyone Achieves Mission!

The acronym T.E.A.M. is most often translated as “Together Everyone Achieves More.” At The King’s Academy, the focus is on achieving our mission. That version of T.E.A.M. aptly sums up the accreditation process and self-study results at The King’s Academy in Sunnyvale, CA.
While TKA has grown over the past 29 years, the mission has never changed. As a direct result of the ACSI accreditation self-study in 2015, TKA undertook its first-ever strategic planning process, which included rewriting the mission of the founding members while retaining its authenticity. That led to our current mission statement of 17 words, “The King’s Academy is a Christ-centered school that inspires academic excellence, servant leadership, and enduring relationships.”
The TKA mission statement has served as a guiding star for the Board, Head of School, administrative leadership team, teachers, and staff. It is a concise and clear statement of why The King’s Academy exists. It is frequently cited in board meetings, staff meetings, parent events, open houses for prospective families, and key ceremonies like commencement and awards assemblies.
The strengths and weaknesses cited in TKA’s self-study conclusion all relate to the mission. However, our mission is never static. For example, this year, it has required figuring out new ways to teach during a pandemic, new ways to connect and build relationships with Gen Z and their parents, new ways to engage students in service virtually, and new ways to lead students to the light of Christ in a world filled with so much darkness.
The accreditation process and the resultant affirmation of TKA’s mission had an energizing effect on our teachers and staff. We all know that focusing intently on our school’s mission is what makes our aspirational vision attainable: Graduates of The King’s Academy are transformed by Christ, live a life that honors God, and use their gifts to influence the world for Him.
