Minh Anh Nguyen was born and raised in Vietnam. As she approached high school, however, her parents decided their daughter should attend an English-speaking boarding school overseas. Little did they know that this decision would change Minh Anh’s life, and theirs, in a way they had never imagined.
Minh Anh’s parents chose Fredericton Christian Academy (FCA) in New Brunswick, Canada—an ACSI International member school—hoping that the education she received there would help her gain access to the best universities in Canada. FCA had an almost 100% university placement rating and a world-class post-secondary training process.
But Minh Anh was hesitant about moving thousands of miles away to attend high school. She explained that she “was afraid of not fitting in to the culture and not being able to make friends.” After arriving in Fredericton, Minh Anh’s concerns about being so far away from home were quickly dispelled. She said that “FCA removed [my fears] from my very first day of school, as my teachers and classmates were all genuinely welcoming and friendly.” Later, she would receive an even greater gift, a relationship with the One who would give her true peace and a new direction for her life.
While at FCA, Minh Anh’s education was based on Christian worldview programming. She was surrounded by a caring and loving faculty, a peer group that provided her with support, and welcoming church youth group networks. But most importantly, she was exposed to the Word of God, and after being at FCA for a while, she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior.
Minh Anh found Christ halfway around the world and ever since has shared the good news of the Gospel in her adopted home, as well as her birthplace. She shared her faith with her parents and extended family back in Vietnam. Both her parents accepted Jesus as their Savior, as did several family members.
Minh Anh graduated at the top of her class at FCA and is now a sophomore on full scholarship at McGill University, which is considered a Canadian Ivy League university. She is in her second year in the Honours Mathematics program. At McGill, she started an international Christian group and has led several students into a relationship with Jesus. Her wide-ranging witness also includes often flying back to Vietnam to work with a few Christian ministries.
Regarding future plans, Minh Anh said that she is considering a career in computer science or finance, as both fields require mathematical aptitude. She is also open to the possibility of graduate school. “Regardless of which path I pursue, I hope it will follow God’s will and not my own, and that I will be able to serve and glorify God with my career.”
